Hawai'i Five-O

We've seen a lot of iconic jerseys come through over time. From Arsenal FC's infamous "bruised banana" the the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and their infamous "Wild Wing" jersey, the San Diego Padres' "sanitary" uniforms or the Pittsburgh Steelers "prison" uniforms. Good or bad, this category of sportswear and its counterparts are usually the most recognizable uniforms across their respective sports. As I have here before, I enjoy a good Hawai'ian jersey. Over the next few days, we'll look at the one that got me started and another one that wasn't so grand. Keep in mind that these will be concepts based on the originals used by the appropriate teams.

This is the alternate jersey that started the third jersey craze in the National Lacrosse League. While Rochester in the late 90s were the first with an equally good alternate (also frequently mentioned in the past), Toronto made them hip by going Hawai'ian of all things. Now you almost always see St. Patrick's Day uniforms (notably Buffalo, Calgary, and Colorado - Philadelphia did one year) as well as cancer awareness of some sort (including Buffalo and Minnesota). Retros have been done but Buffalo in 2011 (scrapping their previous orange alternate) and Toronto (2014) weren't joined by Rochester whose 20th season was this year (Buffalo will celebrate it's 25th season in 2016).

The jersey itself has smaller design elements on it than the actual one, but the name and number font and colors remain the same. This caused inspiration for a jersey in Minnesota some years later - that will be around the corner.
