David Stern's Team

The Buffalo Braves owner John Y. Brown decided to sell the team, but could not do so. He approached then  Celtics owner Irv Levin in the 1978 off-season to swap franchises. Levin as a businessman always wanted to own a California team and that the Celtics weren't an option. Okay, so where does commissioner Stern come in? A few years before his commissioning days, he was a general council member for the league and brokered the deal, which was approved by 25 of the 26 league owners.

Home

Keep in mind that up to this point. There were two failed (original) ABA franchises based out of San Diego who lasted a combined three seasons. In addition another failed franchise in the NBA, the team we now know as the Houston Rockets. This team upon their arrival would "inherit" the "San Diego Sports Curse" and would subsequently move again within four years. This is the team we now call the Los Angeles Clippers.

Road

But whatever happened to Buffalo, NY and professional basketball? Since this time, despite the sports crazy fans that support all of their teams, the television market has significantly decreased and many games either go blacked out or un-aired. There are no Raptors or Knicks fans or any other fans for that matter. As a result of all of this, there will probably never be more than semi-professional basketball in the City of Good Neighbors.

Alternate

It is (in part) for the above that I am an Indiana Pacers fan.
