HJC: Post XXVI

*** The following is my post from a different site, please visit www.hockeyjerseyconcepts.com for the article. ***

Friday: Hockey, Hockey Everywhere

In case you haven't noticed by know since I last wrote, there have been two coaching changes. One happened before my post went live last week in Florida, and the other by Buffalo despite a shootout win over the LA Kings. So much for Ron Rolston's new contract . . . but anyone remember the days before Lindy Ruff - or who the head coach immediately preceding? Yup that's right, Ted Nolan, the interim guy. I'm going to switch a cliché to the situation: He who taketh away shall giveth back. When Nolan was fired in '96, the Sabres lost a lot of their indigenous fan base. This is a great move to bring them back (slowly) I'm not so sure about "La-la" coming back, however. Speaking of La-la, lets give a quick listen to Rick Jeanneret and John Gurtler, among others with his top 10 goals.

Pittsburgh Penguins {Jordan R.}

Ahh classic gold . . . soothes the soul, don't ya think? Numbering - totally Pittsburgh-esque. The Vegas gold is actually well distributed; in fact, I'd like to see gold numbers with white outline on the alternate (unless they clash with the beck of the uniform). I think I'd rather see the white laces on the white uni and not the alternate, but that's merely a minor detail.

What I know: I still like the classic gold o'er the Vegas gold
What I learned: This template helps the Penguinos a little.
What I want to know: What inspired the striping pattern?
True to Pittsburgh form, sort of, but a good fit for sure - an 8 out of 10

New York Rangers (Stadium Series) {Matt R.}

The first thing I thought of was that the blue cuffs need to go. The red uniform can, to some degree, represent the NY Americans since it wasn't done in the Winter Classic. Since this is only a stadium series game, it wouldn't hurt to see Lady Liberty make her appearance on the crest .

What I know: Only the New York Americans have ever worn a red uniform in the New York City metro area.
What I learned: I'm not the only person who wants to see a red Strangers jersey.
What I want to know: Why the striping from the current pair of pants wasn't retained.
Lady Liberty's torch isn't quite extinguished, a 7 out of 10.

Oakland Seals {Rob C.}

This says retro modern very well. There are some things to note, however. The white jersey shows that either the middle stripe on the back side isn't colored in or the one on the front shouldn't be. Or it might be that it was supposed to match the sleeves. On the TV numbers, the size of numbers mismatch each other on the colored uni and the 2 on the back of the white one appears to be rotated the wrong way. Finally, the crest logo is a little superimposed.

What I know: Striping needs a little contrast.
What I learned: I like this better than the Charlie O. Finley version of the team.
What I want to know: What inspired Rob's brand mark?
This is what happens when the Seals can't get their new arena built - a 6 out of 10.

New York Rangers {Tristan M.}

Okay, this makes more sense in terms of using this logo. The striping is sort of appropriate due to the fact it will be around holiday time, at least I think so (candy cane look).

What I know: I had to leave and come back I like this one that much despite my distaste for the logo.
What I learned: Some jerseys actually wouldn't look good in a classic Rangers yoke.
What I want to know: What if this striping pattern became popular at any point in time?
Looking at an 8 out of 10.

Buffalo Sabres {Caden P.}

Generally, I'd bag on the blue cuffs, but the white jersey needs color if it isn't there. Speaking of adding color, I need an order of a blue yoke. The outline would be pointless unless the blue is inside of it. The following is only a suggestion but not necessary - could we test this to see if a white outline and gold yoke could be used on the blue uniform? Also on the white, how about blue lettering? I'd criticize the helmets, except they would look better after my suggestions I reckon.

What I know: People like to have a go at combining blue and gold with the goat-head.
What I learned: This is a time where no silver is accceptable.
What I want to know: What the blue uniform would look like with a gold yoke and white outline
Potential yes - a 7.5 out of 10.

Dallas Stars {Justin C.}

Another roundel uniform, I'd be okay with as an alternate. That is unless the striping is as is - quite frankly, I loathe it. I do however feel that transferring the pants striping to the jersey and socks would be much more beneficial to the concept. Else-wise, I like what I see.

What I know: The star on the sleeves makes this look a little like a football jersey.
What I learned: I would indeed rather prefer a black Stars alternate.
What I want to know: If the old uniforms would look good with the new logo.
"Second [star] to the right, and straight on till morning," a 7 out of 10.

2014 Heritage Classic {Stephen T.}

It might help if there was branding for the event, but I'm not going to just let that be a factor. In regards to execution errors, there needs to be a quick fix in the back numbers as the outline is mismatching towards the top of the Sens one. On the Canuckleheads one, the white center stripe needs to be altered on either the sleeves, pants, and or hem - take your pick. Otherwise, I'm happy.

What I know: Even though I think they should, they haven't followed the path of silver accentry like their fellow 1970 expanders in Buffalo
What I learned: Adding more white to this classic jersey doesn't look so bad.
What I want to know: Why there isn't another pair of Canadian teams in a Stadium Series game.
One heritage classic, two teams, three periods, four quarters per grade point , five minutes in OT - an 8.25 out of 10.

Evian FC {Jets96}

The first thing you may think of is the water bottle producers. That's because the water bottle producers are actually the Groupe Danone (known as Dannon in the US), who own the team. This little bit is true to form of the mineral spring water counterpart. I can make nothing but good news from this.

What I know: Evian was formed for Ligue 1 soccer in France in 2005 after two restructures; one of my favorites after Bordeaux.
What I learned: It's a good thing that yellow isn't too prevalent in actuality.
What I want to know: Why yellow, or for that matter, why not red?
Like the water flowing through the arêtes of the mountainside, placid and serene. Very scenic - an 8.75 out of 10.

Pittsburgh Penguins (Stadium Series) {Matt R.}

The last (and only) time that gold uniforms were worn by this team was between the 1981-82 and 1983-84 seasons. Pity really that they didn't last longer. They say that all good things must come to an end, but they said nothing about reviving them. My issue is that this also brings another era of the 'Burgh that I don't like the striping. Too many for my liking. Reduce it by half and I'll be okay.

What I know: Team colors were changed from light and dark blue to gold in accordance with the city's other sport franchises.
What I learned: Gold wasn't given a fair shake in the team's uniform department either.
What I want to know: Could Robo-Penguin make a shoulder patch appearance?
All set for a 7.75 out of 10.

Dallas Stars {Wings98}

Everything that involves font is too small for the uniform - both on the back and sleeves. The same goes for the crest logo, which is much more proportionate, but not completely. It would be nice to see some striping on the sleeves of the white jerseys. Also in regards to execution, the stripes should run over the stitching. Maybe the middle black stripe along the sleeves could be widened even more.

What I know: Nobody is doing retro Stars concepts either as Dallas or the North Stars.
What I learned: This template can resemble both new and old Dallas, particularly from the collar.
What I want to know: What if they decided to use blue instead of green for official team colors.
A work in progress and a 5.5 out of 10.

California Seals {Rob C.}

Essentially this is copied from the Oakland set above with minor changes. The crest logos are over-sized here as well. Can't really say much else on this one based on the other.

What I know: White skates weren't  included with the equipment.
What I learned: The pants look better here than the ones on the previous Seals concept.
What I want to know: Does this favor one of the two concepts better?
Like I said, Charlie O. Finley did not take this team seriously - a 6 out of 10.

San Jose Sharks {Jordan R.}

The Sharks have always had intriguing alternate logos. I feel that this set truly resembles the team and the franchise. However, I would like to see the team have an orange jersey while promoting the black one to the home and road set. I never did like seeing the deep Pacific teal as a uniform color, even though it differentiates the team from other franchises.
What I know: Deep Pacific teal is the root of the franchise in branding.
What I learned: Orange laces for everyone is a good idea in San Jose.
What I want to know: Can we pull off retro kerseys resemblant of this?
That's got a dangerous bit - an 8.5 out of 10

Minnesota Wild {David P.}

Well, I think I am one of the very few people whose for the most part liked the MLB's "turn ahead the clock" idea. I thought they would be good batting practice jerseys rather than full time ones. I like David's enthusiasm in putting such a series together. I'm pretty sure that we won't be seeing short sleeves in hockey, but just like the New York Lottery, "hey, you never know!"

What I know: This appeared to be a flop idea in Major league Baseball
What I learned: David should be hired as a marketing director in sport.
What I want to know: What inspired David to chose this idea?
 A wild and radical idea - a 9 out of 10

2014 Stadium Series {Stephen T.}

I like the look of both of the jerseys. The Ducks look kind of like the Art Deco of hockey. The Kings look like the team that donned this branding when the Mighty Ducks were new to the NHL. The only real thing I want to see is a middle orange stripe on the Ducks pants.

What I know: I'd rather be at Dodger Stadium than Angel Stadium because of not wanting the beautiful grass to be ruined.
What I learned: I'll likely be happy with whatever be happy with what the Ducks come out with for the game.
What I want to know: Why this particular striping for the Ducks?
To our last concept, a Concept of the Week nomination and 9 out of 10.

It's the little voice in your head again, please vote for everything!

Thanks for another great Friday. If you see me with other nicknames for a team, fear not for it's all in good fun and not making fun of teams. Rather I only bash teams I dislike verbally, where it matters. That's not to say I don't like the teams I jested today, but many long time readers know some of my affiliations. Elsewhere in sports (not that anyone cares), my Indiana Pacers of the NBA are still undefeated as they play at home against the Bucks of Milwaukee tonight! Today is the official inauguration of our new president at Springfield College and concludes week long festivities. As always, enjoy your weekend and go Ducks!

HJC: Post XXV

*** The following is my post from a different site, please visit www.hockeyjerseyconcepts.com for the article. ***

Friday: The Volume of Ricky

     Do you hear that? It's the winds of change. For something anyway. Preparing for another weekend of hockey, this is usually how the weekend starts for me - writing these posts. Quite frankly, it puts me in a good mood to talk about hockey on my Saturday afternoon sports talk radio show at our campus station in particular. Fantasy leagues do that too, but not like this creative aspect of hockey. I today am introducing the Laker Parchment (essentially an HJC sacred book), speaking of change, because I have found its components a necessity of hockey concept lore. It was presumably found in the Hurontario or Niagara Frontier regions.

+++*-^*-^*-^*-^*-^*-^*^-*^-*^-*^-*^-*^-*^-*+++

Words from the Laker Parchment -
                  Ricky 13: 1-3
                             {1}Thou shalt voteth before thine deadline and {2} their opinion dost be valued to {3} determine thy neighbors winning entry.

Well, that's the initial story of voting. There are other stories in the Volume of Ricky as well as the different accounts of how voting works in the other volumes (Ryan, Wonka, DBro, William, Jets, and Caz most notably).

COTW Oct28-Nov3 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTY Logo Top 3 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Pittsburgh Penguins {Frank C.}

I personally have never liked the Vegas gold over traditional gold for Pittsburgh, but it's better than the baby blue I guess. While the striping pattern isn't my favorite, it's doable. I'd at least like to see it on the pants. I would also keeping the sleeves a solid color then with the striping added.

What I know: I think the Penguins look best in flat gold.
What I learned: White NOB/number outlines don't work well with light colors.
What I want to know: Why the Vegas gold is so popular.
They dove deep but had minor acceleration, a 7 out of 10

Florida Panthers {Jordan R.}

While these templates can actually work in the NHL, there's too much lack of design along the chest front of the jersey. I do like the gradient on the chest front as long as the blue is only along the yoke and sleeves. The only thing with the numbers is that I would stick to the dark blue with white outline as was showcased on the previous alternates the Panthers had.

What I know: The NHL doesn't use these uniform styles.
What I learned: The Columbia Blue makes primary colored gradients look bad.
What I want to know:
I got bit pretty bad by that panther - tough cookies, a 6.5 out of 10

Slovenia Slovakia {S2dio}

This one is alright, figuratively speaking. I like almost everything on the home and roads except the slight smallness of the TV numbers and the pit stains being placed as they are. On the alternate, why isn't the hem design on the sleeve cuffs? I feel it would be better than the striping and not be too distracting.

What I know: The crest logo is a national symbol that can also be found on the Slovenian flag.
What I learned: Slovenia would be able to pull off vintage white if they did it right.
What I want to know: Why the pit stains are designed as they are.
An 8 out of 10

Slovenia Slovakia {Jets96}

This template will always entertain me. While it looks like the way I mix templates with random small pockets of panels, it can work in situations like the one above. The one thing I noticed immediately is that the striping on the sleeves sees the red stripe not perfectly parallel to the surrounding blue stripes. But in addition to that pattern, I would add thin white stripes to better match the TV number outline. While it isn't necessary, you could also argue that you should then include a double outline on the back number.

What I know:This template exists.
What I learned: The design of the pants would be good for a NY Rangers alternate.
What I want to know: Why the colored uniform doesn't use a red helmet.
An 8 out of 10

**********************************
EDIT by: Ricky
I noticed that on the bottom of S2dio's concept read "Slovensko" which would be literally read "Slovenian" in English. The file abbreviation read "SLV" where I am used to "SVK" for Slovakia and "SVN" for Slovenia. I thus gave the misnomer to the previous two concepts. It kills me that I'm a history buff (specializing in Eastern Europe) and didn't pick it up until an anonymous tip came about.
**********************************

Michigan State University {Jake88}

The sleeve striping is very entertaining. While I'm not in favor of it, it can be a possibility for the Spartans. The fact that the striping on the pants doesn't match is actually alright here.

What I know: I'n most cases, I hate the faux-laces.
What I learned:  Jake's gloves compliment the home white quite nicely.
What I want to know: Why MSU's logo doesn't look good to me when it's in white?
The Spartan's spear is a little dull, a 7.5 out of 10

Latvia {S2dio}

Wow, double red actually looks very attractive compared to a double blue. I don't think I've ever seen this combination before. I'm not 100% sold on the nameplate on the gray jersey, but I like it enough not to change it. The striping on the pants could use something, but I can't identify anything immediately.

What I know: Double red is a rare color combination.
What I learned: This is a template I have never seen before. It looks kind of like a dress shirt.
What I want to know: Why colleges like Colgate and RMU haven't experimented with this combination.
It's an 8.5 out of 10

Calgary Flames {Brian B.}

Well, this is one of those jerseys that truly resembles everything an alternate jersey should be. The Alternate logo is not only the crest, but is very well implemented in the sleeves. I would add either the yellow stripes or the mountain outline to the pants in some capacity. I really like this concept, but I've already seconded a nominated concept this week and don't want to be divided until voting.

What I know: The logo is the shoulder patch from the new alternates and Mikka Kiprusoff will have his number retired someday in Calgary.
What I learned: The new logo can potentially be used for an alternate jersey.
What I want to know: What the inspiration was for the sleeve design being taken from the crest logo?
Reverse polarization at the top of the mountain - with lots of fire, a 9 out of 10.

Colorado Avalanche {Justin C.}

On a personal note, I'm glad to see our friend Justin back on the design trail after a seemingly lengthy absence. After all that time, he hasn't lost his touch one bit. However the design of the mountains are a little too curvy along the side as I can't associate curvature with mountains (whether or not it's illusional). I don't like the striping color alignment but the format itself is fine. I would reverse the black and silver on the road white if I got to create this concept.

What I know: Mountains have always been a popular feature in Avs concepts by Justin (and me for all Coloradoan teams).
What I learned: 5,280 shouldn't be used by just the MLL's Denver Outlaws for team branding.
What I want to know: Why there aren't mountains on a physical Avs jersey yet.
Climbing the mountain, the Cliffhangers hiker reached an 8 out of 10 in elevation.

Greece {Wings98}

The home and road here definitely are inclusive of Hellenistic culture. That is always a plus, especially when you cant read their language. I'm not much in favor of the yokes on them though. On the alternate, I don't like the mismatching striping, the hem in this case looks better than the sleeves. As for font, the numbers could use a double outline to liven the alternate up just a bit more. As far as the Nike Swoosh on it, at least it isn't grey in color as I see way too frequently on darker blue apparel items.

What I know: Greece is directly south of Macedonia and they don't like us (Macedonia). {I'm first American born on mom's side of family; Macedonia has no outlying issues with Greece though}
What I learned: This is an example of double blue looking both good and bad at the same time.
What I want to know: Why the striping is different between the sleeves and hem.
Working a 7.5 out of 10

Japan {Jets96}

In comparison to Jets earlier concept, the midle stripe on the sleeves are again nonparallel.

What I know: Japan adapts quicker to things than a lot of other places, but has yet to do so in hockey.
What I learned: Japanese characters look good on more than just soccer jerseys.
What I want to know: Why the cuffs and sub cuffs were left  to be oppositely colored of the uniform.
Looking at 7 out of 10

Edmonton Oilers {Jordan R.}

The thing is here that the 1997-2010 color scheme becomes a hybrid as the copper is changed to orange. I would like to see more orange in the home and road. As for the road, either change the royal to dark blue or (my preference) color in the white to orange while you're at it. As for the alternate, color in the cuffs and you're set. Just remember to have the striping match the sleeves (my preference on sleeves over hem) for the hem on each of these.

What I know: Oilers changed back to non-Bettman characteristics for 2010/11 and beyond.
What I learned: The double blue with royal and dark blue is the reason why people say double blue is a bad idea for uniforms.
What I want to know: Why dark blue was kept (not that I mind it or anything).
a out of 10

Los Angeles {Ted N.}

There isn't too much about the WHA . . . and this concept. But that's mostly because when the Omni Coliseum was built in Atlanta - it looked then futuristic but suffered a lot of damage within the circa 25 years that it was erect. It was built not for the NHL's Flames completely when the WHA was competing for the Atlanta market.

LA meanwhile didn't thrive, playing most games at USC's campus and finishing worst overall in their second and final season before moving. Maybe their cool uniforms that were ditched caused their losing season in 73/74. At least with that unifrom they finished with a playoff spot.

What I know: The sharks were a WHA charter member.
What I learned: The team had cool striping on their inaugural home whites.
What I want to know: What inspired the stripe choice.
Their penalty kill is what kept the team afloat in 73/74, a 7 out of 10.

In case you've forgotten please remember what verses one through three from the Volume of Ricky, Installment 13 said about voting. In the meantime, my Ducks are doing very well, Arsenal FC are in formidable form, and the NBA's Indiana Pacers are (fortunately) the last undefeated team in the league so far. In retrospect, the MLS' New England Revolution were dismissed from it's playoffs. For the second time in a week, I get to see the Ducks and Sabres play and that's the extent of my sports life this week. Enjoy your weekends and I'll be back next Friday!

Friday: Halloween Isn't Over

While everyone is enjoying hockey, I get the day off while having to deal with college females on my campus in suggestive clothing and hanging out with their boyfriends . . . I did see a guy hockey costume last night though - equipment and all. I'm still sold on the fact that Chara bought the soft tripping penalty on Patrick Maroon yesterday that I knew would lead to a Bruins win. As I prep for the Ducks visit to the lowly Buffalo Sabres tomorrow, I will be pulling for our athletics program in Springfield to do well. Enough of my sports problems, let's get to the fun stuff ! ! !

Carolina Hurricanes {Brian B.}

The first of three similar concepts. I am being tested by Brian's work. From what I can tell, the bottom of the two white stripes from the current uniform is changed to black. And everything else appears the same unless this picture was taken before the new uniforms were introduced. I like the black stripe but not on this uniform. Oh how I (like many) miss the flag stripes. The changes on the other two may be a little more obvious. Storm warning: an 8 out of 10.

Quebec Bulldogs {David P.}

Here's a team we don't hear about often enough! I like the look except the colored cuffs I would like to see have a blue stripe in the middle while removing the hem as for the numbers and NOB a darker outline where applicable. Lack of TV numbers would make sense but the template is too modern (notice the collar insert). As far as the vintage white, either use it everywhere or not at all - it doesn't sit well with me. This concept barks more than it bites, a 5.5 out of 10.

St. Louis Blues {Matt R.}

The symmetry of this concept is uncanny I like it but with minor changes. This is too much of a good thing and my first thing would be to ditch the number outline. Next the NOB must go from white to yellow then remove the hem. Then if I am going to see this as a third jersey, use an alternate logo for the crest. I know everybody hates roundels, but the arch logo should be retained from the current one. However if I make that suggestion, then maybe keep the number outline and change it to silver along with the remaining white stripes. This music exam scored a 7 out of 10.

Nashville Predators {Brent P.}

Okay similar color issue with this as the last concept, except that there is no silver to sub in anywhere. I like how the chest stripe is somewhat different from what the Canadiens use, but at the same time the color issue takes away from it. The shoulder patches are (A) backwards on the left sleeve side and (B) not appealing in color. On to the number for the back, I would go white or yellow with a blue outline  or change the white striping to blue and get rid of most if not all of the white. A 6.5 out of 10.

Minnesota Wild {David P.}

Well this is a combination of uniforms. but takes away most of the white. This is pretty good as far as giving Minnesota a (finally) matching set. Problem is it needs a road white. Now, if this were soccer where you can wear different colors home and road, that would be cool too - Portland of Major League Soccer uses a similar green at home and bi-red colors on the road.  My only tweaks would include TV numbers and switching the green and white on the hem and sleeves (not that anything is wrong with that combo as is) and Switching the thin green stripe to red on the green uniform. An 8 out of 10.

Winnipeg Jets {Matt Ruck}

This one gives you a lot to think about because it utilizes the entire Jets color scheme outside of the logo. White being an accent color, should be removed from the cuffs to the aviator blue of the jersey and also to match the socks. Else-wise, I like it  - it's relatively simple despite the nine-stripe design. Soaring high with an 8.5 out of 10.

Nashville Predators {Brian B.}

The only changes I noticed here are on equipment from the originals. The yellow stripe on the pants were added and yellow was also added to certain areas of the gloves. I think I'm misunderstanding the purpose of this particular presentation of the concepts, but it's experience. A 7.5 out of 10.

Soviet Union {Stephen T.}

Gold is the key to this concept, it livens up what would be a rather dull concept. However, I would like to see the gold be the fatter stripe on both jerseys. The only thing with that is that it might look like something for China, so the way it is is fine I guess. I'm not a fan of the double number outline specially the gold and white as we've mentioned earlier in the post. At least maybe add stripes to the pants and I'll be satisfied with this one. A 7 out of 10.

Toronto Maple Leafs (Blades of Steel) {Jason P.}

The double blue. I've mentioned I'm okay with it if you can pull it off like the new Jets of the CFL's Toronto Argo. This is not one of those. I like everything about this other than the color (and the mask design, but that at least is appropriate to the BoS theme). The darker of the two blues just isn't dark enough for me. A 6 out of 10.

Buffalo Sabres {Brian B.}

Not because I'm from the area but because it is an easily identifiable part of the current uniforms, Brian has removed the piping from the uniforms here. I also believe the silver that was present has been turned white. That I don't like. Unlike many others, I love the silver accenture, it makes everything more bold and stands out much better. But still, it's better than I would've done. A 7.5 out of 10.

Montréal Canadiens (Blades of Steel) {Jason P.}

You could classify this as the official fan jersey of the Heritage Classic, given the colors. While it's not the standards red, white, and blue for the Habs, I like this schematic much better than the double blue from the aforementioned leafs kit. All in all, it does keep most of the traditional team elements. An 8 out of 10.

Well, that was all in a days work. Now it's time for some more exciting hockey, cheers!

Friday: Struck by Lightning!

Welcome one welcome all to another installment of HJC: Fridays! Ricky Mazella here as per usual keeping you informed of incoming concepts. We have no immediate business, but we do have a few votes going on, please remember to check your daily reminders as visible below!

---------------------------------------------------------

IIHF Bottom 10 Top 5 votes (due Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
                           COTW Oct 14-20 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

---------------------------------------------------------

Minnesota Wild (Darren H.)

Well I'll tell you what, this one escaped terror even with the execution errors. Whilst the name NOB and crest logo are somewhat over-sized, this concept still turned out alright. My only question is why the "C" on both jerseys aren't the same size. But I like the color, particularly the yellow accenture. I'm happy but this isn't quite perfect without laces - because I feel that if Minnesota "is" hockey, laces would directly relate even though they aren't needed. A 7 out of 10.

Canada {Compromise} (HJC Ryan)

I'm split on this one, but I'm not sure this completely fits what I would identify with Canada hockey as it pertains to space utilization. That tips the balance in disfavor of liking it but hardly. I do like what it has to offer, but a double strip along the sleeves might be what this concept needs to balance it or tip the scale the other way. I'm looking at a 7 out of 10 here.

Edmonton Oilers (Steven G.)

As Steven continues his de-Edge series, we see something that seems to be coming more popular of an idea. For the love of hockey, will we ever see an orange Oilers uniform again?! I sure hope so. I love how the striping is a prelude to the lettering in the logo. Outside of the socks, I need changes made to the equipment but there are several ideas that I wouldn't know which would be best. The rigs are back with an 8.5 out of 10!

Japan (Coby S.)

Unfortunately for the Japanese, this would be a half colored in design. With my preferences, I would color the sleeves red as well as add a rising sun as a crest logo with the above characters inside of the rising sun. I do think the numbers are cleverly placed. This concept could use a jersey back in this case so we could have some idea of how the above concept has a better feel to it. A 5 out of 10.

Czech Republic (s2dio)

Oh Jiri Novotny the days that have passed since being a Sabre . . . we lament your presence by these pretty spiffy designs for your homeland!  I most like the diagonal striping on the main set. I feel it adds character to an already rich non-North American uniform history. If only I got to see Dominik Hasek in one of these. I'm not particularly keen of the old Senators name/number font, but in this case it is merely an oversight. An 8 out of 10!

Carolina Hurricanes (Brian B.)

If the audience isn't already aware I can't stand the Black Ice series. But I must say this is exactly what I picture a 'Canes Black Ice uniform to look like I don't know that I like the curvature at the edge of the yoke but it matches the striping elsewhere. Because it is just that and meant predominantly for merchandise sales, there is no need for equipment. Overall, a 9 out of 10.

Finaland (s2dio)

As nice as these are, I would be okay if any of the Scandinavian teams kept some of their previous uniforms. while both jerseys well incorporate the country, I can't see this being used - particularly the blue sweater. But the light striping is crucial to this set making it more appealing as a concept. Here's to a 7.5 out of 10.

New Jersey Devils (Rob C.)

Adding white into the Devils color scheme . . . I think it can work. But not as a primary color - that means we need to alter the arrangement of color in the logo. The white yoke is an entertaining idea and maybe switch the green and white as it comes to the striping. A 6.5 in passing, but a concept with much potential.

Tampa Bay Lightning (Jets96)

Well well, if this isn't a snazzy outfit. It appears as though the alternate Tampa uniform template is applied to a home and road set and the way that it is distributed here is just dandy. It almost immediately grabbed my attention when going through this weeks concepts at first glance. I have no constructive criticism other than removing the bolt outline on the pants of the alternate set. A 9.5 out of 10 and a CotW nom to boot.

Virginia Cavaliers (Dylan W.)

I wouldn't mind seeing the alternate become the primary and then have a colored kit created as a result. The main set isn't distasteful, but the striping isn't preferable. The numbering for the main kit I would like to see changed. If the alternate were turned into a home and road, I feel orange would be better than blue. I can safely say this one is a 7.5 out of 10.

Not to be brief, but I'm looking forward to a long relaxing weekend - I hope you are too!
